Forged and hand-beaten from iron, agogo feature a larger low-pitched barrel (the parent bell) and a smaller high-pitched barrel (the child bell, said to rest on the bosom of the protective parent). When mastered, this bell produces a range of interesting sounds including buoyant pitch bends. Agogo hold a vital role in ensemble music as a time keeper.
