Dancing is a special tradition in Indigenous Australia Culture showing love and connection to the land. Traditionally dancing tells stories about Dreamtime, their land and their people. Dancers body and faces are painted with paint which is a mixture of ochre, ash and fat from animals. The dancers bodies are sometimes adorned with animal furs and bird feathers.
Traditionally dancing plays an important part in weddings and funerals, where musical instruments such as the didgeridoo and clapping sticks are played.
Play mat measures approx 40cm x 40cm and converts as a bag that is rolled up for carrying or storage.
Royalties are paid to the designer artist Sherren Gross of the Nunukul, Nughie and Gorenpul people from Mijerribah in Quandamooka of the Eastern side of Australia. A story card is included written by the artist.
The product is hand crafted by talented artisans in Fair Trade sewing and embroidery organisation in India.
